So here we are! Rad Dad time.
What is MyRadDad?
Plenty of dads out there suck… BUT (keep reading it gets good)
… but those sucky dads are just a few ideas and actions away from becoming rad.
Kids are incredibly awesome. Why? Well, beyond all the ‘typical’ reasons kids provide a way for grown up folks like you and I to become a kid again.
Before you had kids when was the last time you played with a Nerf gun? … My point exactly. This last Christmas I bought my 4 1/2 and 2 1/2 year old girls (if I didn’t put the 1/2 and my girls found out about this blog they would be utterly disappointed that I didn’t tell you they were the 1/2, but they would be super pumped that I used a funny word like utterly ) semi-automatic battery powered nerf guns that hold 10 shots.
Now we build forts and have nerf gun battles. Um… I’m 30 and having nerf gun battles in forts. Awesome! Oh yeah, and as far as my girls are concerned I am a bear… or a dragon, with a nerf gun.
Sometimes parenting makes you want to crawl into a hole and pull your hair out. These difficult times sometimes poor into our everyday parenting and as dads we can start taking it all a little to serious. Especially when the ‘little blessings’ somehow understand the concept of manipulation and attitude when they cannot even say those words.
Dads that believe in spanking think,
“More spankings = Has got to be the answer.”
While dads that don’t believe in spanking think,
“Spankings = I was swatted like a stubborn mule and turned out okay. Maybe I oughta give this a try.”
Now don’t get me wrong, I believe parenting is a serious endeavor, but it should be overflowing with fun and adventure and laughs. Sometimes building relationship and spending some quality outdoor time with the old bag of arrows is just what the doctor ordered. (Yes the same doctor that seems to be the only one who can insult your kid and you thank and pay him for it. “Well sir your daughter has gone from off the charts in weight to more off the charts, lets hope she starts slimming down a little.”) (Yes, this is a true statement said by our doctor about our daughter. But she’s really fat.) (Don’t worry she is only 7 months.) (so many parenthesis).
This planet provides a plethora of activities, nature, adventure, fun and excitement that we can share with our kids and enjoy ourselves.
So MyRadDad is about enjoying being a dad, making it fun and building memories with our kids.
